03:41 pm - We're back and better than ever! Hello my lovely listeners,
After an eight-month haitus (I was unwillingly living internet-free), xSing It Back is making its triumphant return to the podcast scene.
It's strange - the hiatus couldn't have come at a worse time. My computer decided to become "virus = very yes" almost immediately after the Shameless CD release party. Not only did that mean that I couldn't make new episodes, it also meant that I couldn't re-upload any of the expired episodes.
Almost every week I would make a playlist, thinking long and hard about what I could say about the songs, stories I could tell, themes I could explore... I could have used xSing It Back to preview bands that at one point were my whole world. Fortunately for everyone, I can do all that and more now - look for major changes to the xSing It Back formula.
I'm going to start by re-uploading all the old episodes. I highly recommend that you check them out - not just because it shows appreciation for the work that goes into each episode and downloading them helps keep them alive - but also the music is fabulous. It's about the music more than anything else, naturally.
Expect xSing It Back episode 10 to arrive very, very shortly - possibly even by tomorrow. You won't be disappointed.
Much love to all,

10:46 pm - Episode 9! Well well, lovely listeners, isn't this a treat?
Not only has it been over a month since episode 8, but I couldn't even make it available until nine days after I recorded it. I swear, I'm going to make it up to you once my life sorts itself out. I've already started on Episode 10, so look forward to that in, well - less than a month.
I've decided that I'm going to make more of an effort to actually get these recorded and posted on a regular basis. There was also some brief talk about getting a proper host for them, but those plans tragically fell through. It's a shame, really. On many, many levels. I'd love to be able to make a new episode every week, I really would. I'm going to try for that, so that even if I fail (which, in all honesty, is very likely) I'll still have one ready for every OTHER week.
So... yes. That's the plan.
For Episode 9, I started off with four ideas and picked the best songs of each one. The episode runs just over half an hour and is possibly one of the strongest episodes of xSing It Back yet. Enjoy!
Episode 9!
Playlist Jason Mraz - Geek In The Pink Mary Timony - Return To Pirates Spitfires + Mayflowers - Hows + Whys Henri Fabergé + the Adorables - Ventriloquist Love Sloan - I Thought I Was Ready For You Immaculate Machine - Phone No. Josh Rouse - Feeling No Pain
Just a reminder: The Shameless magazine release party is coming up really soon. If you can't make it, copies of the new issue are available wherever awesome feminist teen magazines are sold. I highly recommend picking up a copy or five. There's a great podcasting article and perhaps you've heard of one or two of the girls interviewed for the story? okay, enough Shameless pimping
I know I've been negligent towards you, my listeners, but hopefully you'll forgive me enough to leave a comment on the journal? Here are some suggestions in case you're feeling speechless: How are you coping with the breakup of S+M? Geeks: So good or no good? My favourite song from this podcast is... The best kind of licorice: red, black, green or one of the other random fruity flavours? How do you feel about the pop-cultrification of piracy?
With just one click of the mouse, you can make your voice heard!
Thanks for tuning in!

02:16 pm - Episode 8! I know it must be getting old by now, but I really do have a few good reasons for not updating in a month: I had laryngitis, a terrible sinus infection and a very busy itenerary of shows and past-due projects that took precidence over my lovely little podcast. By the time I got it recorded, my internet decided to die. To those of you who waited patiently for your moment in the spotlight, I apologize. I hope to make it up to you with Episode 8.
In the eighth installment of Sing It Back, I looked to your feedback as a guide. The playlist is made up of songs associated with responses I've received about the previous few episodes, as well as a few other songs thrown in because of their relevance to events in my life. Pretty much par for the course when it comes to Sing It Back.
Episode 8.
Playlist The Bicycles - Paris Be Mine Born Ruffians - Hedonistic Me No Dynamics - Infectious Say Anything - Woe Joel Plaskett Emergency - A Million Dollars Zumpano - The Sylvia Hotel Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
Special thanks to Jeremy and Daniel of No Dynamics, Niall Fynes, Ruhee, Maddy, Marty, Eva Lampert and Justin of PB.ca.
Now now, poutypants... I know you're feeling a little left out, but you too can be part of the in crowd by leaving a comment on this post or drop me a line at capnallegra@gmail.com.
Thanks for listening!

05:16 pm - Episode 7! After yet another two-week hiatus, Sing It Back is back with another great episode!
Episode 7!
The number seven is associated with good luck and prosperity in most cultures, and hopefully that superstition applies to our little podcast. I've made some little changes to the technical side of Sing It Back - I've switched to MegaUpload to host the episodes instead of Beta YouSendIt. This is out of convenience for everyone. MegaUpload is quicker for you (the listener), and the file stays on the site for at least 21 days as opposed to seven. That's better for me because I won't have to upload all of the episodes again every single week.
Episode 7 (which runs just a little over half an hour) was inspired (in a way) by the CBC radio 3 podcast; I've been listening to it for months now, but I've only very recently started to appreciate the exposure that those bands receive. That's why this episode is all about independent musicians. They're not all Canadian, but chances are that most (if not all) of this music will be new to you.
If you like what you hear, I encourage you to tell the artists. They all have MySpace pages and I'm sure they'd appreciate hearing from you. So would I... comment please.
Playlist Laura Barrett - Robot Ponies Township Expansion - Things Are Tough All Over Peter Katz - IX (Sink Or Swim) CocoRosie - Noah's Arc The Recital - Follow Left Of Here - Take It From Me Pony da Look - The Forcefield Weakens

05:26 pm - Episode 6! Wow. Wowee wow wow wow.
Yeah that's my story. You'd feel accomplished too if you were able to put together a coherant list after watching almost 40 hours of Nardwuar. Another great accomplishment?
Episode 6!
In case you can't tell, I'm very very excited for this long weekend for one reason: Exclaim! Cup Hockey! What amazing, life-changing occurrances will occur this year? Last year I got to jam with my favourite band. This year is gonna be all about the hockey. I've got my five favourite teams and I want to see them compete for my love!
The Halifax-Dartmouth Ferries The ChartAttack Hack (seriously... check out their animated logo. It's seriously the coolest thing ever.) Winnipeg Wheatfield Souldiers Nightmares Jokers Hockey Club
I'm mourning the absence of Pat Kelly in this year's playoffs, just to let you know. He played for the Jokers last year and I loved him so much when I was younger.
Of course, Sing It Back provides the official soundtrack for the commute from one arena to the next.

Comment. please?

(P.S. I have a new favourite drummer: Jeremy Finkelstein of No Dynamics. He's kind of very spitty and drooly when he plays but I'm rather infatuated nonetheless. The hair, the black dress shirt and the general look (combined with his drumming abilities) make a very appealing stage persona, even if he had to wipe the drums off after the No Dynamics set.) 12:35 am - Episode 5! Hey! You excited? You hyped? ... as you should be, because Episode 5 of Sing It Back has landed!
I giftwrapped it especially for you (because I love you more than anyone else) and I can say with all conviction that it is now 100% calorie, fat and carb-free with that Sing It Back flavour you've come to know and love. Safe for vegan, vegetarian and Kosher diets! Now 79.3% of your recommended daily intake of awesome!
Check us out in an upcoming issue of Shameless magazine; I went head to head with journalista extraordinaire Sabine Hikel for an article on podcasting and I realized that I love being interviewed as much as I love interviewing. We discussed music, safety issues, post-secondary education and any advice I'd give girls just starting out. It'll most likely appear in the summer issue, so don't miss it. Miss airthatgrooves was also interviewed.
Anyway, here's Episode 5 for your enjoyment. It runs about 26 minutes.

You know the drill... comments are good karma, so post them often. I promise I won't eat you if you do, but I make no such guarantees if you choose to stay quiet.
Also, it's in your best interest to watch the Juno awards, as several Sing It Back artists are nominated. Good luck to all of them!

08:06 pm - Episode 4! Hello all!
Sorry once again for the lateness, but I wanted to especially make sure that airthatgrooves heard the next episode before I posted it for my lovely listeners. Why, you ask? Well, the theme is "Anthems For A 17 Year-Old-Girl" and it just so happened that Ms. Ruh turned 17 this week.
I normally wouldn't make an episode for one person specifically but it's not often that such a great person turns seventeen. I compiled songs for a while trying to find just the right ones. There were some obvious ones that I didn't make it and for good reason (Janis Ian's "At Seventeen" comes to mind), I just wanted to get it perfect.
In other Sing It Back news, I have an interview with Sabine Hikel of Shameless Magazine on Tuesday and we'll discuss podcasting. It should be exciting! Look for a mention in a later issue!
As for Episode 4, it runs half an hour and - as previously stated - features music about seventeen-year-olds. Feedback is always appreciated. lego_ruth@hotmail.com or post a comment.
Episode 4!
Playlist: My American Heart - Today Is The Number Seventeen Stevie Nicks - Edge Of Seventeen Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl Frank Sinatra - It Was A Very Good Year Ladytron - Seventeen
Jimmy Eat World plays the theme; this is not news, but it's still appreciated.
Happy birthday to Ruh, Ryan and anyone else I've stupidly forgotten.
Love love love!

01:45 pm - Episode 3! Hey everyone
Sorry I haven't updated; it's been kind of hectic these past few weeks with school and concerts and drama with the friend-types, parental-types, teacher-types, editor-types and boy-types (only not so much of that; that area is pretty deserted.)
I'm not going to say I'll update every week when I know I won't be able to. I'll strive for it, but I won't guarantee anything. A lot more work goes into these casts than initially anticipated and, while it's worth it when you guys say "I loved that second song!" I am so bogged down with work for Chart, my Writer's Craft courses and I kind of want to pass math this time around.
I do have a lovely third episode ready for download Episode 3
It runs 27:16 and has no real theme. I just played what I wanted.
As always, enjoy and please leave all questions, comments and concerns in comment form (or email me at lego_ruth@hotmail.com)

12:24 pm - Episode 1! Greetings party people and the place to be!
The first episode of Sing It Back is complete and ready for download.
Episode 1 This episode runs 40 minutes and focuses on that oft-overlooked instrument, the trumpet. On any other week, the podcast will normally run about half an hour, but I wanted something a little longer to kick off with a BANG.
